Allergic and Crafts

Everyday we learn something new I always heard  Abu saying it and now that I am older I see it everyday.  I learn something new about myself and about others for instance last week we learn Milo is allergic to ant bites

Milo you went out to play and got bitten by an ant, Samia called me screaming and I went and remove it from your hand it was just one and I did not give it much thinking, however a few minutes later you started crying and complaining your tongue was hurting.  The truth is that I did not give it much thought I though it was just you not feeling well.  Then you started crying and complaining so I asked you to let me see your tongue and it was swellen so right away I took you to after care and yes indeed you were having difficulty breathing by the time we made it.  I was so scared but so glad that we found out when I was around and I was there to take care of you.

This week we being working in some valentine crafts, Samia you love making this garland it was so easy and it kept you entertain for a while, I love to have you do crafts that you are going to enjoy doing and best of all you are going to be looking at some time to decorate the house I find that you take more pride of those crafts.

Milo you were too little for a needle and thread so you opted for the puzzles.

I love to see you posing nena hermosa

I finally finish my playhouse!

It all started a couple of weeks back, well really a couple of months ago after I stumble upon this I just love her play house they are incredible..I was a bit hesitant about making one for las nenas since I figure it would be lots and lots of work.  I showed it to my friend Bonnie and the truth was that she was the one that push me and said we can do this.  She bought all the materials and then we sat down and figure out the dimensions and some of the sides the same idea.

After having all the panels cut and the big stuff cut then comes the small details what to make detachable what to sew and the drawing which by know everybody knows I am not that good at it, but couple of nights looking at coloring pages did the magic.

Samia saw me making some of the stuff and she was so excited she has not seeing the playhouse completely put together I know she is going to so happy when she sees it Christmas days.

There are a few things I would had done different but I guess next time I will defiantly do it. Another thing that I really enjoy making was the felt mail and knowing that all of our family members are away I figure the picture in the stamp picture keeps their memory fresh with the family.

This are all of the detachable items

  • they can pick the apples
  • pick the vegetables
  • count the numbers
  • learn the shapes
  • mail the letters
  • water the flowers
  • rearrange the flowers
  • give the bone to the dog

Sewing, Cooking, Crafting = Elashry Girls

Since Samia started school I notice that the day that she has no school I have to keep her busy so she does not get bored.  I think Samia would do wonderful if she would be going 5 days to school I guess it would be next year.

Samia a few things before I forget.  The other day when I pick you up from school, I asked your teacher how you were doing and what you did after lunch.

Teacher - Samia go and play outside with the kids

Samia - No Ms. Nicki they are all sweaty I stay inside.

Samia  you are so careful about everything and the funnies things is that you always end up falling or hitting yourself with the walls.  When we go outside you complain about the grass, the bugs, everything so unlike me.  I wonder where you got those girly girly touches.

Today after cutting the cake we bake and enjoying the lantern you made, you disseapear for a second baba found you in the playroom looking out of the window talking to the starts or like you said ---Making your wishes to the stars.  Everyday you amaze me nena!

Let's start by showing my last sewing project I finish the skirt with skort and then I decided to take one of your shirts and make it a collar out of mami's t-shirts.  She love it and that always makes me super happy! I made this for Milo's birthday, Samia is having a hard time understanding is not her party so I will just play alone, I know next year she would understand the birthday concept.  Inshallah!!!

Samia you area also a big helper planning Milo's birthday here you are helping me with the party favors.  You look just like mami in this picture!

Since last week I being having two pumpkins in my kitchen waiting to  be carve but seriously SAmia has not idea on how to do it and neither do.  I personally think she would not really enjoy it so I figure let's paint them this way she can entertain herself as well as Gamila.  I love when the girls do crafts specially when baba gets home and they run to show him what they made and this was no exception.  I used washable paint this way we can wash them and do it again if we choose to.

While Gamila took a nap Samia wanted to keep on working with her hands so we did a very cool thing. I was not very sure of the outcome but it came out great.

I got a glass jar ~~~~ Liquid Starch ~~~~Tissue paper any color I only had white would try it with orange soon.

I had her cut the tissue paper in small pieces she did some big some large.

Then with a sponge she wet the jar all over with the starch.

Then she started sticking the tissue paper around the jar

I let it dry for about 4 hours.

Then I ask her to draw a happy face she got a little excited and color all over it.

While she was doing it I told her we would light it up like we do our Arabic lanterns, but inside me I did not know if I could put a tea light inside, I know you can do it in glass, but then I started thinking that maybe it was only some kind of glass that could take the heat.

When baba came home she showed it to him and ask him to light it up...baba right away did and wow it was great we all loved it.

And here we are all of us enjoying Samia's tea light, we will be doing this once again.

I try to keep Milo busy baking cakes but she always find time do come up with something like this

Sofa Make Over!

So this has being Abuela's living room set for the past 16 years she is so fed up with it but the economy is not very helpful this days so she can not change it.  I told her don't worry you would have a new looking living room by the time I leave.

Last Tuesday I went out and bought some fabric I spend $90 dollars and keep on mind there is another sofa just like this but instead of the 5 pillows the other has 3.  I made covers for the 8 pillows and instead of opening holes for the buttons I created my own little flower buttons.  Abuela and Nono love the new sofa.

Barrette Tutorial

Nenas I was thinking I should show the two of you how I make my crafts this way when the two of you grow up if you want to do some crafts you just follow what mami did.

Barrette I got this from a website and I was impress on how easy it is made, I have made it with felt and fabric.

Materials
Barrettes
Felt or fabric
Sewing Machine or needle
Lots of imagination

-Take the barrette and trace it in top of the felt

-Cut the piece
-Then cut another felt in the same shape of the barrette however make sure this second one you cut a bit shorter.

-Sew around the edges
-Stick the barrette in the little pocket you have just created

-Run your imagination to decorate, you can use buttons, felt made flowers or shapes, leather,
beads, etc, etc.
.

Listo!
