Quinceañera a Sweet Comedy

I love my Spanish heritage as all of you know by now...but when it comes times for los Quince meaning when we turn 15, is very common for the Spanish parents to make this huge party...something like a first wedding. I never had one I always begged Abuela NO NO don't even think of a party. I had my share of Quince parties where I had to go and rent this huge gown and dance in the famous dance of los Quince...imagine being Cinderella but you are not the Princess.
I am not going to lie I loved going to this parties but not being the birthday girl. The gowns the dances. I remember going to Quince rehearsals and everything, you have to learn the choreography the entrance, the dance, were to stand when the birthday girl is dancing with the whole entourage.

If you never being to one of these parties just imagine a wedding with 15 couples. I know here in the USA we do Sweet Sixteen, but I am not sure if is such a big tradition like it is for us Spanish people. Is very common to be in the Quince and see the birthday girl dancing with every single male of her family is like the end of being a sweet innocent girl and entering womanhood.
Nenas I promise you that I will never do a quince party or make you wear one of those silly dresses mami is having to wear.

My step-sister's daughter had her quince party last year, and although I wasn't able to attend I saw the pic's and it looked like quite the party!!

I don't know about sweet 16, but where I'm from Quince's are the norm. I was supposed to have one and it fell apart... same happened with my youngest sister for diff reasons. Part of me hopes my girls will want one... but they're being raised Lebanese and I don't know.

Nur - Si es una cosa impresionante los quince yo creo que es algo muy caribeno tambien.

One Anxious Mommy - Oh yes they throw the house out of the window for this kind of parties.

Mama Kalila - Here at home we are raising the girls half and half but defiantly no quince for them.

Maybe I worded that badly lol.. We're raising our kids to know all their cultures (I'm very very very mixed) but we live near my inlaws and our Church is Lebanese.. so that's what they'll identify more with. My husband is really half (mom is white) and he's the same way.

that's funny! my parents begged me to have a quinceanera but no I didn't want one. My dad was so mad with me but they said what do you want a car or a quince? What did I say? yup the car, I got a jeep and never regret not having a quinceanera!:)
