King Cake, Carnaval, Mardi Gras

We have live in Lousiana for 2.5 years so this is our 3 year of King Cake I am not a fan of it, however last year one of baba's coworkers got one for us that was home made and WOW WOW it was delicious...this year the gentleman is no longer doing them so we bought one at Ambrosia's a (supposedly very good bakery, in my personal opinion is not that good). Samia and Gamila enjoy the King Cake to the fullest even eating the little baby inside. Nor in Colombia or Egypt we have something like.

Here in Louisiana nenas this coming weeks are very festive, lots of parades and then Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This year Inshallah would be our first year that we attend some parades, Samia I know you will really enjoy them. However in Colombia I went to many Carnavales like we call them...starting the first week of el Nuevo Year we have may festivities, they are in different cities. I will talk about the ones I attended.

Carnaval de Negros y Blancos this is in Pasto I remember painting my face white and throwing flour from our balcony I was a little girl but I remember all the fun we had seeing all the people parade in front of our house, it was awesome I don't have any pictures here but I think at Abuela's I might have some...when I go to Miami I will try to find some. Oh and since Tio Cesar is a little dark we use to make him wear betun in his face (I am not sure how it is called in English but this is the polish you put in your shoes)

We also have La Feria de Manizales this is mainly horseriding parades, beauty contest and our famous Corrida de Toros (bullfights) this is awesome I remember seeing them and screaming OLE! On another note every time we will come back from a corrida de toros I will remember playing with Tio Fabio OLE, he will get a red piece of fabric either a shirt or a pillowcase and I will put my fingers in my forehead imitating a bull and run towards him, he will stand still and when I was approaching lift up the fabric and make a very fancy elegant turn and say OLE (I know nenas is silly but mami was a child and used to play and laugh like you guys)

We also have las Ferias de Cali I lived in Cali for a couple of years however I have to be honest I don't remember much of this ferias I do remember Abuelo and Abuela going to many parties related to this festivities.

I'm sorry about your King Cake experience. I personally think Gambino's has the best here in B.R. I also like a place in Hammond called Southern Maid. They have a pecan praline one that is to die for. I plan on getting one the next time I go to Hammond so you can try some. I don't even like nuts and I like this one.

I also think Gambino's is the best in BR..but Mandeville bakery has the best. I ONLY like plain king cake. We went to the BR parade last year and had a lot of fun we need to do this together!!
